About the Therapist
I am Matt, a Gestalt counsellor working with adults and young people aged 16 to 17, in East and Central London and online.
My approach to counselling is grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens within a genuine therapeutic relationship. Without this relationship, therapy can easily become superficial. With it, difficult experiences can begin to make sense, and something new can emerge.
I approach counselling with an interest in what has happened in your life, rather than beginning from the question of what is wrong with you. I am interested in how experiences have shaped the ways you cope, relate, and understand yourself, and in allowing those stories to be listened to and explored.
I work with a broad range of concerns, with particular focus on addiction, trauma, self-harm and self-injury, loss of identity, life transitions, and questions of meaning and purpose.
My work is informed by a Gestalt approach, which allows sessions to develop collaboratively around what feels most relevant to you, rather than following a fixed technique or formula.
Alongside my professional background, my own life experiences have informed how I work, helping me to sit with others with care, empathy, and a lived understanding of difficulty.
I have professional experience supporting people through addiction, self-harm, mental health difficulties, and significant life transitions. This experience has shaped how I work, holding a steady focus on safety, responsibility, and care, without reducing people to diagnoses or behaviours.
I offer counselling as a place to reflect and make sense of what is happening in your life.
If you would like to explore whether working together feels right, you are welcome to get in touch.
