Get To Know Me
I’m Matt, a Gestalt counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults and young people in East and Central London, as well as online.
Understanding how your past experiences have shaped you can be an important part of therapy, but it’s not where the work stays. I’m interested in what’s happening for you now, and how we can begin to understand and work with that in a way that feels active, engaging, and meaningful. Therapy doesn’t always have to feel heavy or stuck, it can be a space where something begins to shift and new ways of being can emerge.
Alongside my professional training, my own life experiences have played an important role in how I work. There have been times in my life that felt difficult, unsettled, and at points hard to make sense of. Those experiences led me toward this work, and continue to shape how I sit with others, not just from a theoretical perspective, but from a place of lived understanding that can’t be learned from training alone.
I’m also aware of how difficult it can be to reach out for support, particularly for men. This is something I have personal familiarity with, and it informs how I work, with an emphasis on creating a space that feels steady, grounded, and free from judgement.
While talking is an important part of therapy, I don’t believe it always has to be limited to conversation alone. At times, I work more creatively, exploring different ways of understanding experience that can feel more engaging, and sometimes even bring moments of lightness into the work.
I work with a broad range of concerns. My core areas of focus include anxiety and overwhelm, relationships, self-worth, feeling stuck, addiction, and trauma. I also have a specialist interest and experience in working with life transitions, loss of identity, questions of meaning and purpose, and self-destructive behaviours.
My work is informed by a Gestalt approach, which allows sessions to develop collaboratively around what feels most relevant to you, rather than following a fixed technique or formula. My work is also trauma-informed, with an awareness of the nervous system and parts-of-self exploration.

Professional Background
I am a fully qualified Gestalt counsellor, holding a BSc (Hons) in Gestalt Counselling (First-Class Honours) and a DipHE in Gestalt Counselling (Distinction). I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with its Ethical Framework.
A little About Me Outside The Therapy Room
Outside of my work, I tend to be fairly introverted. Large social gatherings aren’t always my natural environment, and I’ve come to value quieter spaces and slower ways of being.
I spend a lot of time outdoors where I can, whether that’s hiking, being by the sea, or simply watching the sunset. Nature has become an important part of how I look after myself.
I also make time for my own wellbeing through exercise and self-care, which are things I came to value through therapy. That experience has been an important part of learning about myself, and personal development continues to be something I actively engage with and seek out in my life. This shapes how I sit with others; not from a position of having it all figured out, but from an ongoing process of understanding and growth.
I also share my life with my little dog, Coco, who can be present in sessions if that feels supportive for you.
Earlier in life, things looked quite different. There have been periods that felt more chaotic and unsettled, and those experiences continue to shape how I understand change, difficulty, and what it means to find a different way of living
I offer counselling & psychotherapy as a place to reflect and make sense of what is happening in your life. If you would like to explore whether working together feels right, you are welcome to get in touch
