Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I begin counselling with you?

You can contact me by email, phone, or the form on this site. I will reply within 24 to 48 hours, and offer a free 15 minute consultation before you commit to a full session.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No referral is required. You can contact me directly to arrange an initial conversation.

How many sessions will I need?

I work with both short term and long term therapy, and the right length depends on what you need. I recommend a minimum of eight sessions to start. We will check in together throughout our work, so you can agree how many sessions feels right for you.

Fees and Practicalities

How much do counselling sessions cost?

In person sessions in Spitalfields, London, cost £80 for 50 minutes. Online sessions cost £60 for 50 minutes. Full details are on the Fees page.

How do I pay for sessions?

Payment is due 48 hours before each session, by bank transfer, unless we agree otherwise.

What if I need to cancel or change a session?

I ask for at least 48 hours notice. Sessions cancelled with less notice may be charged in full.

Do you offer reduced fees?

I believe therapy should be accessible to all, and that cost should not be a barrier. I hold a small number of reduced fee spaces, often for people on low incomes, students, or those receiving benefits. You are welcome to get in touch to discuss what might be possible for you.

Online and In Person Sessions

Can I have sessions online?

Yes. I offer online sessions, alongside in person sessions in Spitalfields, East London.

Is online counselling as effective as in person counselling?

Online sessions offer convenience and can be a highly effective form of therapy. In person sessions offer something further, the possibility of a deeper dynamic, through creative engagement that does not translate in the same way online.

Where do in person sessions take place?

In person sessions are held in Spitalfields, East London, close to Shoreditch, with good public transport links.

How Counselling Works

What happens in the first session?

We agree how we will work together, and you have a chance to ask any further questions. This gives us a starting point to explore what may be bringing you to therapy, and how I can best support you.

What is integrative counselling?

Integrative counselling draws on more than one approach. My work combines Gestalt foundations with elements of CBT, IFS, and ACT, chosen to fit what is happening for you in each session.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

The two terms overlap in practice. Counselling often focuses on a specific issue over a shorter period. Psychotherapy can involve deeper, longer term work. I offer both, depending on what you need.

Who I Work With

Who do you work with?

I work with adults and young people aged 16 and over, in person and online.

What issues can counselling help with?

I work across a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, relationships, low confidence, self-destructive behaviours, addiction, and life transitions. I also have extensive experience and training in supporting men's mental wellbeing.

Confidentiality

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. Sessions are confidential, in line with BACP ethical guidelines. There are limited exceptions where I may have to break confidentiality, which I will explain at the start of our work together.
